Chartered Accountant (& the accounting track).

The one Indian credential that changes your family's class without a college brand attached — and one of the longest grinds to get it. Three exam levels, a two-year articleship on ₹4–5K/month, pass rates that compound brutally. Plus the path nobody markets: B.Com + Tally/GST into a real accounting job in one year.

Quick answer

Becoming a CA takes three ICAI exam levels — Foundation, Intermediate, Final — plus a two-year articleship: roughly 4.5–6 years, with pass rates of ~10–25% per level. Fresh CAs averaged ₹12.88L CTC at ICAI's 2025 campus placements. Prefer the non-CA route? B.Com plus Tally/GST skills gets you accounting work at ₹2.5–4L within a year.

ICAI publishes past papers and mock tests openly. One honest hour with real questions tells you more about your fit than a month of coaching-institute ads ever will.

Is CA worth it in 2026? The 30-second answer

Parents already love CA. Here's what the next five years actually feel like for the student.

  • The credential is real: ICAI's 62nd campus placement averaged ₹12.88L CTC for freshly qualified CAs, with the top domestic offer at ₹26.6L. No college brand, no entrance coaching from age 14 — the exam IS the filter, and it's open to any Class 12 pass.
  • The filter is brutal and slow. Recent pass rates: Foundation ~15–19%, Intermediate ~10–25% per session, Final ~11% for both groups. Almost nobody clears every level first attempt — the marketed 'minimum 4 years' is realistically 4.5–6, including two years of articleship at ₹4–5K/month minimum. Meanwhile, engineering friends at product companies earn ₹50K/month (₹6L/yr), though most service-company engineers start at ₹25–30K/month.
  • If the CA grind isn't for you, the accounting field still is. A B.Com with Tally + GST skills is employable at ₹2.5–4L within a year of graduating, growing to ₹4–8.5L as a senior accountant — and GST practitioner enrolment lets you build your own filing practice. This page maps both tracks.
What it really is

What does a chartered accountant actually do?

A CA is the person the law trusts to say a company's numbers are true. Audit — checking and signing financial statements — is work only a CA can legally do in India. Around that monopoly sits everything else: tax filings and tax strategy, GST compliance, company valuations, fundraising paperwork, forensic investigations, CFO work.

In a firm (Big 4 or local), you audit clients and advise on tax — deadline-driven, season-heavy, with a partner track that takes 12–18 years.

In industry, you run a company's own finance — closing books, MIS (management information system) reports, managing auditors from the other side. Steadier hours, clearer CFO ladder.

In practice, you're an entrepreneur whose product is trust: small businesses pay you to keep them compliant and solvent. Slow to build, fully yours.

Beneath the CA layer is the wider accounting workforce — accountants, bookkeepers, GST practitioners — who do the daily ledgers for India's crore-plus GST-registered businesses. That track needs a B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce) and software skills, not a five-year exam war. Both tracks are mapped on this page.

A typical day

A second-year article at a mid-size firm, audit season.

Articleship is the heart of the CA path — two years of real client work. Busy season (roughly September–November and January–March) looks like this.

  1. 09:30
    Reach client site
Most audit work happens at the client's office, not your firm's. Laptop, audit file, last year's working papers.
  2. 10:00
    Ledger scrutiny + vouching
Sampling invoices, matching entries, testing controls. Tedious, but this is where you actually learn accounting.
  3. 13:30
    Lunch (30 min)
With the client's accounts team — half the job is staying on good terms with people whose work you're checking.
  4. 14:00
    Senior's review queries
Your audit senior (a 3rd-year article or fresh CA) tears through your working papers. You re-do two sections.
  5. 16:00
    Client follow-ups
Chasing bank confirmations, missing invoices, explanations for odd entries. Polite persistence is a core skill.
  6. 18:30
    Documentation
Everything goes into the audit file. 'Not documented = not done' is the profession's first law.
  7. 20:00
    Leave (busy season)
Off-season it's 18:00. Deadline weeks can run later. Big 4 articles report longer hours than mid-size firms.
  8. 21:30
    Final-prep study
1–2 hours of CA Final study after dinner. This double shift for two years is the part nobody warns you about.

After qualifying, the rhythm changes by track: firm life stays seasonal (audit/tax deadlines), industry roles are steadier with month-end crunches, and practice is as intense as the client book you build.

Is this you?

The honest test — before you commit five years.

CA is less about brilliance and more about sustained, unglamorous discipline. Check the fit first.

You'll probably love it if…
  • You can grind alone for months without external validation
  • Numbers, rules and 'finding what doesn't add up' satisfy you
  • You want a respected credential without a college-brand war
  • You can delay gratification — low pay till ~23, then a step-jump
  • You're okay failing an attempt and going again
  • You like the idea of your own practice one day
You'll probably hate it if…
  • You need a salary by 21 — articleship pays ₹4–5K/month
  • Exam failure knocks you out emotionally for months
  • You want creative, build-something work
  • Detail-checking and documentation feel like punishment
  • You're doing it only because 'CA = respect' at home
  • You can't study after a 10-hour workday for two years
Salary, honestly

What does a CA actually earn (in India)?

All figures are annual CTC unless marked as stipend. The famous ₹12.88L is the ICAI campus average — the distribution around it is wide, and the stipend years come first. Don't let either half of that sentence get edited out.

Demand & AI

Will India still need CAs in 15 years?

Yes — the signature is protected by statute. But the work under the signature is being re-sorted by software.

Demand has a legal floor: companies must be audited, tax must be filed, and only CAs can sign. India has roughly 4.07 lakh ICAI members (about 1.6 lakh in practice) against over a crore GST-registered businesses and an economy formalising fast — GST, e-invoicing and stricter compliance keep creating work.

The AI question: automation is genuinely eating the bottom of the pyramid — data entry, reconciliation, routine return prep. That hits plain bookkeeping jobs hardest and junior audit work next. What survives and grows: audit judgement, tax strategy and representation, deal advisory, forensic work — anywhere a human must take responsibility for an opinion. Plan to climb to judgement work fast, whichever track you take.

Growing
  • · GST / indirect tax advisory & litigation
  • · Virtual CFO services for SMEs & startups
  • · Forensic audit & fraud investigation
  • · Ind-AS / IFRS conversion & deal advisory
  • · Fintech and startup finance leadership
Compressing
  • · Manual bookkeeping & data entry
  • · Routine return filing (software does it)
  • · Basic reconciliation & voucher work
  • · Pure compliance clerking without advisory
The CA route

Three levels, one articleship — and the pass-rate math.

ICAI's New Scheme (since July 2023): Foundation → Intermediate → 2-year articleship → Final. Exams run three times a year. The structure is simple; the compounding pass rates are what make it long.

Who can do it — the most open elite credential in India
Entry

Class 12 pass (any stream, no minimum marks) for Foundation. Graduates skip Foundation via direct entry: 55% aggregate for commerce, 60% for everyone else.

Age

No age limit — at any level. People qualify at 21 and at 40.

Attempts

No hard cap. Registrations are time-boxed — Foundation 3 years, Intermediate 5, Final 10 — but all are revalidatable for a fee. The clock pressures you; it never disqualifies you.

Level 1 · Foundation
4 papers · after Class 12

Accounting, business law, quant and economics. Register at least 4 months before the attempt. Jan 2026: 1,09,694 appeared, 21,099 passed (19.2%); Sept 2025 was 14.8% — call it ~15–19%.

~15–19% pass3 attempts/yr
Level 2 · Intermediate
2 groups · 6 papers · 8-month study period

Advanced accounting, law, tax, costing. Both groups must be cleared (plus ICITSS training) before articleship. Per-group rates run ~10–25%; clearing both groups in one sitting: 10.06% in Sept 2025, 10.97% in Jan 2026. This is the most common wall — most CAs lose at least one attempt here.

Level 3 · Articleship + Final
2 years training · then 6 papers

Two years of paid training at a CA firm (₹4–5K/month minimum in big cities), plus SPOM (Self-Paced Online Modules — ICAI's mandatory online study modules), then CA Final after completion. Nov 2025 Final: both-groups pass rate ~11%. The summit — and the work-plus-study double shift is the hardest stretch.

Stage figures are the same exam cycle, not one tracked batch — each stage holds a different cohort. The previous cycle (Sept 2025) minted 11,466 new CAs. The compounding is the point: at ~15–25% per gate, almost every CA you meet has failed at least one attempt. Plan for it; don't be ashamed of it.

Time, money & opportunity

What the CA route actually costs.

ICAI fees (all levels)
≈ ₹85K–1L

Registration + exam fees across Foundation (≈₹11K), Inter (≈₹20K), Final (≈₹25K), trainings. Study material included. Retakes add exam-form fees.

Coaching (common, optional)
₹1.5–3L

Per-level classes push the typical all-in spend to ₹2.5–4L. Self-study with ICAI material + test series is genuinely viable — many rank-holders do exactly that.

Opportunity cost
~5 years of low income

The real price. Two years on a ₹4–20K/month stipend plus study years before it, while a B.Com friend earns ₹2.5–4L. The campus average of ₹12.88L is the payback — if you finish.

The roadmap

How to become a CA (in India) — step by step

Four phases. The marketed minimum is about 4 years post-12th; budget 4.5–6 with normal retakes.

1

Foundation

Class 12 → ~6–12 months
  • Register with ICAI ≥4 months before your target attempt (any stream, no minimum marks).
  • Four papers: accounting, law, quant, economics. ICAI's own material + past papers are free.
  • Exams three times a year — a failed attempt costs months now, not a year.
  • Already graduating? Direct entry (commerce 55% / others 60%) skips this level entirely.
2

Intermediate

~1–2 years
  • 8-month study period, then two groups of three papers each.
  • Clear both groups — this is the most common wall (recent per-group rates ~10–25%).
  • Complete ICITSS (IT + soft skills training) to unlock articleship.
  • Start learning Tally/Excel seriously now; firms expect it on day one of articleship.
3

Articleship + Final

2 years + exam
  • Two years full-time at a CA firm. Choose deliberately: Big 4 (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC — brand, global clients, narrower daily exposure) vs mid-size (breadth across audit, tax and advisory, better study-life balance).
  • Stipend reality: ₹4,000–5,000/month ICAI minimum in big cities (Regulation 48); Big 4 firms pay ₹10,000–20,000/month voluntarily — check before joining.
  • Complete SPOM (Self-Paced Online Modules — ICAI's mandatory online study material) alongside articleship work.
  • Sit CA Final after articleship completes — both-groups pass rate ~11% (Nov 2025). The work-plus-study double shift is the hardest stretch of the whole path.
4

Qualify & place

Months 54–66
  • Take ICAI membership (you're now 'CA Yourname' — it goes on everything).
  • Campus placement runs twice a year: 62nd edition averaged ₹12.88L CTC, top domestic offer ₹26.6L.
  • Pick your fork: firm (partner track), industry (CFO track), or practice (your own firm).
  • Rank-holders and first-attempt clears get the premium offers — but everyone qualified gets the floor.

CA is one of the only careers in India where the credential alone — no college brand, no family network — changes what your surname means in the job market.

The non-CA track

The accounting career nobody markets: B.Com + Tally + GST.

Most of India's accounting work is not done by CAs. If the five-year exam war isn't for you, this is the honest, respectable map — employed within a year, growing with skills, with a self-employment exit.

Step 1 · B.Com + software skills
Fresher accountant · ₹2–3L/yr

A plain B.Com starts at ₹15–25K/month. Add Tally Prime, Excel and GST-filing skills (3–6 month certificate courses, ₹5–20K) and the same fresher lands ₹2.5–4L. Every trading firm, factory and shop in India needs this person.

Step 2 · Specialise in compliance
GST / payroll / TDS specialist · ₹3–5L/yr

GST changed this track's economics: monthly filings made every business a recurring compliance customer. Accountants who own GST + TDS + payroll end-to-end out-earn generalist bookkeepers and are far harder to automate away.

Step 3 · Senior accountant / accounts manager
5–8 years in · ₹4–8.5L/yr

₹35–70K/month running a company's full books, a small team, and the audit relationship with the external CA. Metro pay sits at the top of the band. Passing CA Intermediate ('semi-qualified') at any point bumps you to ₹3–6L in firms and accelerates this curve.

Exit · Your own filing practice
GST practitioner · earnings vary widely

Graduates in commerce/law/banking can enrol as GST practitioners on the GST portal and file returns for clients. A book of 30–50 small businesses at ₹500–2,000/month each is a real, buildable income — many combine it with a day job first. Slow to build, fully yours.

Honest ceiling check: this track tops out lower than CA — and routine bookkeeping is the most automation-exposed work in finance. The defence is the same at every step: own compliance and client relationships, not data entry. Upgrades later (CMA, ACCA, or CA via direct entry — there's no age limit) all remain open.

CA vs the alternatives

CA vs CMA vs CS vs ACCA vs B.Com + MBA — honestly.

Five real routes into finance careers. Annual CTC for typical freshers; costs are all-in estimates including typical coaching.

CA (ICAI)
₹6–14L/yr start
4.5–6 yrs💸 ₹1–4L

Hardest filter (~11% Final both-groups), highest floor and ceiling. Statutory audit is a CA-only monopoly. If you can finish, nothing else in this list matches it inside India.

CMA (ICMAI)
₹5–7L/yr start
3–4 yrs💸 ₹1–2L

Cost & management accounting. Easier than CA but still sub-20% pass rates at most levels. Strong PSU demand. The closest 'CA-lite' — respected, slightly narrower roles.

CS (ICSI)
₹4.5–6.5L/yr start
3–5 yrs💸 ₹1–2L

Company law and board compliance, not accounting. Mandatory for large companies, so demand is steady but the seat count is small. Often paired with CA/CMA rather than chosen alone.

ACCA (UK)
₹4–8L/yr start
2–4 yrs💸 ₹3–5L

Global credential, friendliest pass rates (30–50% per paper), fastest with exemptions. The catch: no Indian statutory audit rights and fees in pounds. Best if MNC shared-services or going abroad is the plan.

B.Com + MBA
₹4–25L/yr start
5–6 yrs💸 ₹3–28L

Outcome depends almost entirely on the MBA's tier. Tier-1 (IIM-class) beats CA on pay and breadth but costs ₹20–25L plus a CAT war. Below tier-1, a CA out-earns and out-ranks it. Highest-variance route here.

A common smart play: start CA; if Intermediate becomes a multi-year wall, pivot the same preparation into CMA or ACCA rather than restarting from zero. The syllabi overlap heavily.

Career trajectory

Where the CA route can take you in 20 years.

1
Foundation + Intermediate student

Big 4 partner or listed-company CFO is the top 1–2%. Own practice peaks lower but is fully yours.

Where CAs work

Six very different lives behind the same two letters.

The qualification is one; the careers it unlocks are not. Pick the life, not just the credential.

🏢
Big 4 (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG)

Brand, structure, global clients. Fresh CA ₹9–14L CTC; long hours in season. Partner track is a 12–18 year tournament few win.

🗂️
Mid-size & local CA firms

Broader exposure earlier — you'll touch audit, tax and advisory in one year. Lower pay (₹6–9L start), better study-life balance, faster responsibility.

🏭
Industry (corporate finance)

The most common life: financial reporting, MIS, taxation inside a company. Steadier hours than firms, clear CFO ladder, pay scales with company size.

🖋️
Own practice

After a Certificate of Practice. Audit, tax and GST clients you find yourself. Slow first 3–5 years, then compounding — about 1.6 lakh of India's 4.07 lakh CAs practise.

🏦
Banks, NBFCs & fintech

Credit appraisal, internal audit, finance roles at lenders and startups like Razorpay/Zerodha. Fintechs pay industry-plus for CAs who can talk to engineers.

🏛️
Government & PSU

PSU finance officer roles, RBI/SEBI grade exams, C&AG empanelment. CA is a strong base for regulator exams — steadier pay, slower curve.

Which track pays more?

Tax vs Audit vs Advisory — the three lanes inside CA.

Once qualified, you choose a lane. Each has a different pay curve, work rhythm and long-term ceiling.

Audit
Highest starting pay at Big 4
₹9–14L fresh → ₹25–45L manager → Partner track

The statutory monopoly lane. Big 4 audit pays the best starting salary and builds the strongest brand. Trade-off: seasonal crunch (Jan–Mar, Jul–Sep), and pure audit work above manager level is commoditising. Most senior auditors pivot to advisory or industry within 5–7 years.

Tax (Direct + Indirect)
Best balance of pay & hours
₹8–13L fresh → ₹20–40L manager → ₹50L+ partner

GST, income tax, transfer pricing, tax litigation. Demand has grown sharply with GST complexity — good tax CAs are genuinely scarce. Better work-life balance than audit peak season. Industry tax roles (head of tax at a listed company) pay ₹30–50L+ and are highly sought.

Advisory (Deals / Consulting / Forensic)
Highest long-term ceiling
₹10–16L fresh → ₹30–55L manager → highest partner pay

Transaction advisory (M&A due diligence), management consulting, forensic investigations, risk advisory. Highest-paying CA lane long-term — but the most competitive to enter. Big 4 advisory teams typically pick from audit + tax staff internally after 2–3 years. Not a direct entry track for most fresh CAs.

Big 4 articleship vs local firm — what the day actually looks like
Big 4 (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC)
  • · Stipend ₹10,000–20,000/month
  • · Large listed clients — structured audit process
  • · Specialised teams: you do one thing deeply
  • · 10–12 hr days in busy season; 8 hr off-season
  • · Brand on CV opens doors immediately after qualifying
  • · Campus placement access — top offers go here first
Mid-size / local CA firm
  • · Stipend ₹5,000–10,000/month typical
  • · SME clients — you touch audit, tax, GST, MCA filings
  • · Broader daily exposure, closer to the principal
  • · More manageable hours — better for Final prep
  • · Ideal if own-practice is the long-term goal
  • · Less structured training; quality varies by firm
Pros & cons

The honest trade-offs.

Pros
  • · Credential with a legal monopoly — audit work is CA-only by statute
  • · No college-brand gatekeeping: any Class 12 pass can enter, no age limit
  • · ₹12.88L average campus CTC at ~23–24, no MBA-level fees behind it
  • · Three distinct lives (firm / industry / practice) from one qualification
  • · Self-employment is a first-class exit, not a fallback
  • · Total cost ₹1–4L — among the cheapest high-floor careers in India
Cons
  • · 4.5–6 years with ~10–25% pass gates; attempts cost real time and morale
  • · Two years on a ₹4–20K/month stipend while peers draw salaries
  • · The work-plus-study double shift during articleship is genuinely hard
  • · Busy-season hours in firms rival any corporate job
  • · Many CAs plateau at ₹7–8L early on — the credential is a floor, not an autopilot
  • · Detail, deadlines and compliance forever — wrong fit if you need creative work
Myths vs reality

What students and parents get wrong about CA.

CA takes 8–10 years and ruins your youth.

CAs who clear exams efficiently finish in 4.5–6 years. With retakes, it's 7–8. That's the real range — plan for 5, budget for 7. The new scheme runs exams three times a year, so a failed attempt costs one sitting, not a whole year. It's a grind, not a life sentence.

Every CA earns ₹25 lakh from day one.

The 62nd campus placement averaged ₹12.88L CTC and the top domestic offer was ₹26.6L — that top number is the outlier, not the offer letter. Off-campus and small-firm starts are ₹6–9L, and plenty of CAs sit at ₹7–8L for years. High floor, not guaranteed rocket.

AI will make accountants obsolete, so CA is a dying bet.

Software is eating bookkeeping and routine filing — the non-CA bottom of the pyramid. Audit opinions, tax representation and CFO judgement are legally and practically human. The risk is real for data-entry accountants; the answer on both tracks is to climb to judgement work.

You need commerce-with-maths and 90% marks to attempt CA.

Foundation needs only a Class 12 pass — any stream, no minimum marks, no age limit. Arts and science students register every year. Maths helps for the quant paper; it isn't a gate.

If you don't become a CA, the years are wasted.

CA Intermediate alone makes you a 'semi-qualified' worth ₹3–6L/yr in firms. The same study transfers into CMA and ACCA, and the B.Com + Tally/GST track turns the knowledge into employment within months. The path has exits at every floor — use them deliberately.

Three real archetypes

Three people, three accounting lives.

Composite stories. Names changed.

The classic CA

Cleared Foundation first attempt at 18, lost one attempt at Inter Group 2, articled at a mid-size Pune firm on ₹7K/month. Qualified at 24 — second attempt at Final. Campus got me a Big 4 audit role at ₹13L. The stipend years were humbling; the offer letter un-humbled my whole family.

₹13L/yr CTC at 24
The semi-qualified pivot

Cleared Inter, failed Final twice while articling. Took an industry job as a semi-qualified at ₹5L instead of a fourth attempt. At 29 I'm a finance manager at ₹12L — and my Final registration is still valid. I'll go back when my daughter's older. The door doesn't close.

₹12L/yr at 29, Final pending
The B.Com + GST track

No CA, no regrets. Tier-3 college B.Com, a ₹12K Tally + GST course, first job at ₹18K/month. Five years on I'm a senior accountant at ₹45K/month with 25 GST clients of my own on the side. My CA neighbour signs my clients' audits; I do everything else.

₹5.4L/yr + side practice at 28
Also opens

Other careers this path also unlocks.

Most people who start this path don't end up at the exact headline title — and that's fine. These are the natural pivots your training, skills and network open up.

Start today

One concrete action — based on where you are.

Both tracks reward starting early — but neither punishes starting late. There is no age limit anywhere in this field.

Class 10–11

Take commerce with accountancy if you can (any stream works, but commerce makes Foundation easier). Start reading the business page of a newspaper — fluency with company news compounds.

Class 12

Decide the track. CA route: register for Foundation on icai.org at least 4 months before your target attempt and start with ICAI's own free study material and past papers. Accounting route: shortlist a B.Com college and a Tally + GST certificate course to run alongside.

B.Com year 1–2

Doing CA alongside? Keep Foundation/Inter attempts moving — exams come three times a year. Not doing CA? Master Tally Prime, Excel and GST filing now; you'll graduate employable at ₹2.5–4L instead of ₹2–3L.

Just graduated

Commerce grads with 55% (others 60%) can skip Foundation via direct entry to Intermediate. Or take an accounts-executive job and decide with a salary in hand — the direct-entry door stays open.

Working / 25+

No age limit. Direct entry + evening study is a known path — plan 3–4 years. If CA is too long a war from here, CMA or ACCA reuse the same preparation in less time, and GST practitioner enrolment monetises commerce knowledge fastest.

Yes, if you can survive the grind — CA costs ₹1–4L all-in and the credential alone commands ₹9–15L starting pay at campus, with no college brand or entrance coaching needed. Audit is a CA-only monopoly written into law, so demand has a legal floor. The honest catch is the timeline and the pass rates: budget 4.5–6 years, not the marketed minimum.
How hard is the CA exam and what is the pass rate?
It is hard by design — the exam is the filter. Recent rates are roughly Foundation ~15–19%, Intermediate ~10–25% per session (about 11% for both groups together), and Final ~11% for both groups. Almost every CA has failed at least one attempt, so one or two retakes is the norm, not a red flag.
How long does it take to become a CA in India?
The marketed minimum is about 4 years after Class 12, but with normal retakes the realistic timeline is 4.5–6 years. That includes three exam levels — Foundation, Intermediate, Final — plus a two-year articleship. Graduates can skip Foundation via direct entry (55% for commerce, 60% for others), which shortens the route slightly.
For parents

A note for parents (you already approve — here's what to actually expect).

CA is the rare career parents and the job market agree on. The conversation your child needs is about the five years in between, not the destination.

Is CA still worth it now that AI is automating accounting?

Yes — for the CA, less so for the plain bookkeeper. Only a CA can sign a statutory audit or represent clients before tax authorities; that monopoly is written into law. Automation is eating data entry and routine filing, not audit judgement or tax strategy. India has about 4 lakh CAs serving over a crore GST-registered businesses.

My child failed an attempt. Is the plan broken?

No. Both CA Intermediate and CA Final have both-groups pass rates around 11%, so most CAs lose at least one attempt somewhere — the realistic timeline is 4.5–6 years, not the marketed minimum. One or two retakes is the norm, not a red flag. Worry only if attempts pile up with no change in study method.

The articleship stipend is just ₹4,000–5,000 a month. Why so low?

Because it is training pay, regulated by ICAI under Regulation 48, not a salary — those are the legal minimums for big cities (₹4,000 in year 1, ₹5,000 in year 2), and Big 4 firms pay ₹10,000–20,000. The trade is two years of near-free work for the credential that follows. Budget for supporting your child until about age 23–24; the campus average of ₹12.88L per year afterwards is the payback.

What if they never clear the Final?

There are respectable exits. An Intermediate-passed 'semi-qualified' is employable at ₹3–6L/yr in firms and industry. The B.Com + Tally/GST accounting track, CMA, or ACCA are real alternatives that reuse the same study. CA attempts are effectively unlimited — registrations can be revalidated — so the door also never fully closes.

CA or B.Com + MBA — which should we fund?

CA costs ₹1–4L all-in and the credential alone commands ₹9–15L starting pay at campus. An MBA at that pay level means a tier-1 college — ₹20–25L in fees and a separate entrance war. If your child can survive the CA grind, it is the cheaper route to the same outcome. A tier-3 MBA beats neither.
